Market Research Front Cover Conventions - Music Magazine 2

Language – The Masthead of this magazine is ‘NME’, this Masthead stands out with large, bold, clear font, and is located on the left third of the magazine, this is so that the magazine is easy to see on shelves. The title is clear to see as the white lettering stands out from the redness of the background. The colouring of the Masthead is quite unique as the Masthead for most of NME’s magazine seems to be red lettering. The Masthead of the magazine stands for New Musical Express which shows us that NME magazine is interested in the latest and newest artists. The Image of Florence is a close up image of her face; her eyes seem to be looking directly into you which makes this artist connect with the audience and draws them in. The colour scheme of white stands out well against the redness of Florence’s hair and is used for all the Cover lines, Skylines and other lettering on the cover. However, the anchorage of “FLORENCE” is shown in black lettering which stands out from the rest of the lexis on the page, this shows us that the this article is more important than the others shown.

Ideology – This magazine is effective as the image automatically connects with the readers as Florence is looking straight at you, this will draw people to the magazine. We get the feeling that Florence is strong and in control by her eye contact, the colour of her hair, red, also makes her look rebellious and unique.

Institution - Faith Hill
Audience – The audience for this magazine would be anyone who is interested in the latest and newest music artists to keep up to date. Anyone who is interested in Florence will also be a potential audience for this magazine issue.
Representation – This magazine shows us that the artist is strong, unique and seductive. This is represented well by the use of the colour red, and the way the artist is looking straight at you.
